Worcestershire First v Gloucestershire 10th April 2011
Played at Stinchcombe Golf Club
A heavily changed Worcestershire 1st team turned up at Stinchcombe Hill golf club looking for a second success in the seasons friendly matches. Unfortunately we came up against a very good Gloucestershire side and were convincingly beaten on the day.
Again Wallace and Bromley proved a solid partnership leading from the front and getting the only half point in the morning foursomes. The poor foursomes results could be put down to a number of new pairings not quite gelling. This is a shame as foursomes is an area we are normally strong in.
Needing a brilliant start to the afternoons games to try to pull back the deficit the captain was looking for maximum points from the first five games. Hercik, Hems and Larden gave us 3 points but Bromley and Wallace could not overcome the Stinchcombe home players and the task became very difficult following these 2 losses. A valiant effort was put in by all the players but on the day we were beaten by a better side. Positives of the day were the victories for Hems, Hercik and Larden in the afternoon and a great half by Matthew Fevyour who was welcomed back to county golf after an enforced layoff.
I would like to thank all the players for their efforts on the day and also wish Gloucester every success in their league matches this year. Thanks also go to all the officials who came to support on the day and again to Andrew Lammas whose support and help is appreciated by all.
On a final note to all 1st and 2nd team players the county have organised 2 short game sessions with Graham Farr at Worcestershire Golf and Country club on the 5th and 12th May. Each session starts at 5.30pm and ends at 8.30pm. Please could anyone interested please contact me at jgwallace@onetel.com to let me know which date they require. We need final numbers by Friday 29th April. If there is insufficient interest then the sessions will be unfortunately need to be cancelled. Please book early to secure your spot, these sessions have proved a great asset to the junior players I am sure can only benefit the senior players too. (C.Bromley has been booked on both sessions for his own good and the sanity of his playing partners LOL )
