Lutterworth Golf Club - Sunday 13th March
Match Report
We arrived at an overcast Lutterworth Golf Club, with a very young county 2nd side for this our first of two friendlies for the 2011 season. Unlike our team mates in the 1st team we were handed bacon/sausage rolls & coffee on arrival!
The foursomes could not have really worked out any better for us with a good mix of mature minds and youthful energy, placing us with a very nice 4-1 lead at lunch. With excellent performances from all the lads, notably Ben Myatt & Henry James with a very good 4&2 win. But I was especially happy with the fact that everyone was happy to play with anyone, and it was as if they had been partners for years!
Needing only 4 points from 10 singles matches it was time to go for it and really blood some of our very young players, I opted to put George Palmer out in trap 1, this was his first senior singles match, of what now looks like being a very long and exciting future. He took to this responsibility like a duck to water, showing no nerves and coming home well under par with an outstanding 2&1 victory. This left us needing three more wins, and they came courtesy of Ben Myatt, Henry James, Phil Dyke & also making his senior debut Matt Vigers.
I would like to thank all the players for their superb effort & commitment to this fixture, everyone from Leicestershire & Rutland Golf Union, their captain Jim Longstaff, Lutterworth Golf Club for the superb course & refreshments, and finally Past President Mr Roy Hobbis from WUGC for his support throughout the day.
