Second Team v Nottinghamshire At Moseley 7th June 2009

1st game for Worcestershire 2nd Team in the Midland League as defending champions.

The two teams arrived at Moseley Golf Club to be welcomed by torrential rain. The members were bravely heading out onto the course, so the players would be joining them in due course.

The foursomes were played in heavy showers with lots of surface water lying on the greens and in the bunkers.

 At one point it was looking like the foursomes would be reduced to a 9 hole affair (which is classed as a counting match in the Midland League). Remarkably the rain held off enough for them to be completed over 18 holes.

Strong wins from Hill and Smith, Houghton and Bradshaw and Tattersfield and O'Dell, who made a fantastic "up and down" birdie from through the back of the tricky 18th green. A half in the top match from Garey and L.Richardson meant Worcestershire led 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 at lunch.

The weather cleared while lunch was taken and the course drained very well.

Young Moseley player Simon O'Dell went out in trap 1 in the singles and led from the front with some excellent golf to secure his point for the team. The Worcestershire officials were spreading the word amongst the players that we were ahead in most of the matches. This seemed to spur everyone on with some fantastic performances being shown. Wins from C.Richardson, Pulling, Garey, Smith, Stanton (who secured the winning point with a great 2 putt for birdie on the last from 90 feet), Reeves and Hill. Half for Matt Houghton meant an excellent scoreline in the singles of 8 1/2 to 3 1/2. Resulting in an emphatic 12 - 6 win for Worcestershire.

Also nice to see members of the 1st team coming back from Sherwood Forest to support their fellow  Worcestershire players.
