Worcestershire Under 14 v Warwickshire

Played at Redditch Kingfisher Golf Club

Monday 16th August 2010

For people that do not know this course, it is one of the prettiest in the County and has many quality holes which are a good test for golfers of all abilities.

August 16th saw history made and history discovered at KINGFISHER GOLF CLUB, Redditch.

The history made, was the first ever staging of a county golf match at the club, but so impressed were the two counties, Worcestershire and Warwickshire, by the course and hospitality shown, that it won't be Worcestershire's last visit.

The match, an under 14 friendly, was a keenly fought affair, with Warwickshire taking an early advantage in the morning foursomes 3 rubbers to 2.

In the afternoon singles, Worcestershire bounced back very strongly in the first two rubbers with Oliver Farrell and Andy Longmore recording emphatic victories, but then the strength of the Warwickshire middle order came into it's own and tore apart the Worcester middle order.

The final four rubbers were all halved, which was a great performance by a very young and inexperienced, at county level,Worcester tail end.

The final match result was Worcestershire 6 rubbers Warwickshire 9 rubbers.

During the post match meal, which was attended by officials from both counties, Club captain Steve Fanning, addressed the teams and stated that it was a privillage for the club to host such an event and both Captains in their respective speeches congratulated the club on the very impressive condition of the course, and thanked the club for the splendid hospitality shown to both counties

To the history discovered. Golf Historian and Worcestershire archivist and Past President of the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs,JOHN MORETON, who also happens to be the worlds foremost expert on JAMES BRAID designed golf courses was delighted to be attending the event ,but was amazed when he realised, whilst walking the course that it had in fact been designed by Braid himself. John commented that a couple of areas on the course were "unmistakable Braid"
