| MIDLAND BOYS FOUR COUNTIES TOURNAMENT 2010 |
Saturday 27th March
Sunday 28th March
Gay Hill Golf Club
Our last win in this under eighteen tournament was in 1990 at Hagley. So it was with enormous pleasure that we won all three matches at Gay Hill, home course of our President, Peter Adams, last weekend.
The side we put out contained three under 16’s, Ben Robinson, Callum Hutchinson and U16 captain, Henry James. All three deserved their place following pre-season trials and coaching sessions with our new county coach, Graham Farr.
Against Warwickshire on the first day we won 5 – 3. Most matches had close finishes, the biggest winning margin being Josh Carpenter in the last game 4 and 3. Staffordshire won 6 ½ to 1 ½ and appeared to be favourites to win the tournament.
On the second day, Warwickshire had a fine win against Gloucestershire 7 – 1. Worcestershire won against Staffordshire, 5 – 3 when supporters had great excitement at the eighteenth green when Rob and Kris won and Ben Myatt and Ben Robinson putted coolly to halve their games.
At lunchtime Warwickshire and Staffordshire had won one match each and Worcestershire had won two.
Against Gloucestershire, Tom Warbrick (captain) won the top match 3 – 2 and our youngest player, Ben Robinson had a big win 6 – 4. So our determination paid off and we won a very close match
4 ½ - 3 ½ and a splendid victory overall in the tournament.
Special mention to Kris Allen (North Worcs.) and Rob Aldred (Hagley) who won all their three games.
Well done lads, a great start to the season.
