The Centenary Salvers
Played at Kings Norton Golf Club on Sunday 24th July 2011
On a perfect day for golf the sun shone and 57 players enjoyed the course presented - and produced a very close result!
Clubs are congratulated for getting every player to arrive and start on time! The detail results are below.
The three players from each club formed a team to play for the R&A Centenary Salver. This was closely fought with six clubs finishing within ten strokes of the winners. The result was in doubt until the last group saw J Pilgrim from The Worcestershire complete a round of Nett 74 to take his team to a one stroke win ahead of Moseley and two strokes from host club Kings Norton.

President Brian Morris congratulates The Worcestershire team of J Pilgrim, P Wakely and R Kelsall
However the main prize was for the Individual Nett Winner who would go on to represent the County at Woodhall Spa in August in the EGU Gold Medal. The man in form was Chris Kear from Droitwich who scored a level par 72 giving him 68 Nett
Chris goes on to an all expenses paid weekend where he will have a practice round before competing in the 36 hole final against the qualifiers from the other 33 counties. We wish him every success.
Chris has not been playing golf very long but is rapidly improving and works hard at improving his game. Past President Roy Hobbis, who was the Starter when Chris began his round, admired a magnificently struck drive into the wind and flagged him up as one to watch, how right he was!
Disappointment of the day went to the Gay Hill team, who, having taken the lead after all the second round scores were in, their third player then took them from heroes to zeros!
The County thanks Kings Norton for their hospitality throughout the day and their President David Nicholas for his welcome and assistance at the prize giving.
